The best ChatGPT apps for work are the ones that turn a conversation into the thing you actually deliver: a slide deck, a project plan, a website, a CRM report. That sounds like a small distinction, but it isn't.

Picture the last ten minutes before your next meeting presentation. Microsoft's workplace data shows that PowerPoint edits spike 122% in exactly that window (Microsoft Work Trend Index).

You probably drafted the talking points in ChatGPT an hour earlier. Now you're copying, pasting and reformatting against the clock.

That pattern shows up across the whole workday. 75% of knowledge workers already use AI at work (Microsoft and LinkedIn).

In McKinsey's 2026 survey, 80% of respondents say it has improved their personal productivity. Yet only 37% report any impact on their company's earnings (McKinsey).

People write faster with ChatGPT, but the final deliverable still gets built in another tool. ChatGPT apps close part of that gap, because they return the real output in the same window.

This guide covers 12 versatile ChatGPT apps for work, from decks and diagrams to websites and project plans. We checked every capability against each vendor's own documentation and noted who can actually use each one.

You'll also find a short guide on how to add an app in ChatGPT. One thing to know first: since July 2026, OpenAI calls them plugins.

What are ChatGPT apps (and why are they now called plugins)?

A ChatGPT app is a third-party tool that runs inside a ChatGPT conversation. It connects ChatGPT to a service like Canva, Notion or Decktopus, so you can read data from it or create something in it without leaving the chat.

The name has changed a few times, which is why search results feel confusing. Here's the short version:

Timeline showing how ChatGPT apps evolved from the October 2025 launch to the July 2026 Plugin Directory
  • October 2025: OpenAI introduced apps in ChatGPT at DevDay, with launch partners like Canva, Figma and Coursera.

  • December 2025: OpenAI opened app submissions to all developers and launched an app directory inside ChatGPT (OpenAI).

  • July 9, 2026: the App Directory became the Plugin Directory. A plugin can include one or more apps, plus skills and app templates (OpenAI Help Center).

So if you're looking for the ChatGPT apps directory, you'll now find it under Plugins. Your existing app connections kept working after the change.

Depending on your account, you may still see the label "Apps" instead of "Plugins" for a while. Both lead to the same place.

Most of these apps are built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside tools. By late 2025 there were more than 10,000 active public MCP servers, supported by ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor and VS Code (Anthropic).

That's why the same vendor can often offer one integration that works across several assistants. Decktopus, for example, offers both a ChatGPT app and an MCP server for Claude and Cursor.

Why ChatGPT apps matter for work

The case for apps comes down to one problem. Switching between tools is expensive, and most AI-assisted work still involves a lot of it.

Infographic: 1,200 app switches per day, about 4 hours a week spent refocusing, 275 interruptions per workday and a 122% spike in PowerPoint edits before meetings

Switching tools has a measurable cost. A study published in Harvard Business Review tracked 137 employees at three Fortune 500 companies.

They switched between apps and websites about 1,200 times a day. Refocusing afterward took just under four hours a week, roughly 9% of their working time (HBR).

The workday is already fragmented. Microsoft found that employees get interrupted every two minutes during core hours, about 275 times a day.

48% say their work feels chaotic and fragmented (Microsoft).

The gains are real when tools fit the task. In a field experiment with 758 BCG consultants, those using GPT-4 finished 12.2% more tasks and worked 25.1% faster.

They also produced 40% higher quality results on tasks within the model's capabilities (Harvard Business School). ChatGPT Enterprise users report saving 40 to 60 minutes per day (OpenAI).

The companies that win redesign the workflow. McKinsey's 2026 survey found that nearly three quarters of AI high performers have fundamentally redesigned workflows around AI.

Among other companies, only one quarter have done the same (McKinsey).

Apps are one practical way to do that at the individual level. Instead of drafting in ChatGPT and rebuilding the output elsewhere, you finish the task where the thinking happened.

To be clear, no independent study has measured the effect of ChatGPT apps on productivity yet. The logic is simple, though: every copy, paste and tab switch you skip is time and focus you keep.

For more ways to protect that focus, see our guide on how to be more productive at work.

The 12 best ChatGPT apps for work in 2026

This list skips apps that only answer questions. Every pick produces something you can use at work: a deck, a design, a website, a project plan or a lesson.

We favored versatile tools that solo professionals, freelancers and small teams can set up in minutes. Each capability was checked against the vendor's own documentation as of October 2026.

Each entry covers what the app does, where it actually saves time, its limits and a prompt you can copy.

1. Decktopus: best ChatGPT app for presentations and carousels

The Decktopus App for ChatGPT turns a conversation into a designed presentation or carousel. Tag @Decktopus AI, describe what you need, and you get back a link to a finished deck.

That's the gap most people hit with ChatGPT and slides. The content is ready, but the deck isn't, and you still have to lay out every slide yourself.

Workflow showing a ChatGPT message to Decktopus AI turning into a designed 10-slide client proposal deck

This matters most in the moment Microsoft's data points to: the scramble right before a meeting. If you already brainstormed the content in ChatGPT, Decktopus picks up that context, so the deck reflects the conversation you just had.

From there you can keep editing in Decktopus or share the deck with a link. You can also export it as PDF, PPT or PNG.

  • Best for: client proposals, sales decks, team updates, training slides, LinkedIn carousels

  • Standout: one app covers both slide decks and social carousels, and Decktopus also connects to Claude and other MCP-ready assistants

  • Limits: requires a Decktopus account; deeper edits happen in the Decktopus editor

  • Try this prompt: "@Decktopus AI, turn this conversation into a 10-slide client proposal with a pricing slide and next steps."

Add Decktopus to ChatGPT. For a full walkthrough, read Can ChatGPT Make a PowerPoint? Yes, With the Decktopus App.

2. Canva: best for quick social graphics and simple designs

The Canva app creates, edits and previews designs inside ChatGPT. You describe the design, pick from the options ChatGPT shows you, and open your favorite in Canva to fine-tune it.

It works well when you need volume and speed: three variations of an Instagram post, an event poster, a quick invite. Because Canva is template-based, results look polished with very little input.

Weighing Canva against Decktopus for social content? See our Decktopus vs Canva carousel comparison.

  • Best for: social posts, event posters, invitations, simple flyers

  • Standout: several design options per request, so you choose rather than start over

  • Limits: not yet available in the EU or China. Brand Kit and Magic Resize don't work inside ChatGPT, and exporting happens in Canva

  • Try this prompt: "Canva, make three Instagram post options announcing our webinar on Thursday at 3 pm."

3. Figma: best for diagrams, flow charts and timelines

The Figma app turns a conversation, a sketch or a document into an editable FigJam diagram. It supports flow charts, sequence diagrams, state diagrams and Gantt charts.

This is the app for anyone who explains processes: a customer onboarding user flow, a hiring pipeline, a project timeline. Upload a product brief and ask for a flow chart, and you get a diagram your team can keep editing together.

ChatGPT can also suggest Figma when your conversation calls for a visual. Figma Slides and Figma Buzz support are in beta (Figma Help Center).

  • Best for: process maps, user flows, project timelines, decision trees

  • Standout: turns hand-drawn sketches into clean diagrams

  • Limits: Figma launched the app for logged-in ChatGPT users outside the EU

  • Try this prompt: "Figma, turn this onboarding process into a flow chart with a decision point for enterprise customers."

4. Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Express: best for quick image edits and templates

Adobe launched Photoshop, Express and Acrobat apps in ChatGPT in December 2025. You don't need a Creative Cloud subscription to use them.

Photoshop handles edits like brightness, contrast, effects and background changes, with sliders that let you adjust the result by hand. Express covers template-based designs such as invitations and social posts.

For most people, this replaces the "I just need to fix one photo" trip into a full design tool. Upload the image, describe the edit and nudge the sliders until it looks right.

  • Best for: product photos, headshots, blog images, quick social visuals

  • Standout: mixes plain-language edits with manual controls

  • Limits: covers core edits, not the full desktop feature set; available on ChatGPT desktop, web and iOS, with Express first on Android

  • Try this prompt: "Adobe Photoshop, blur the background of this product photo and brighten the product."

5. Adobe Acrobat: best for working with PDFs

The Acrobat app brings everyday PDF work into ChatGPT. It can edit PDFs, compress or convert files, extract text or tables, merge documents and redact sensitive details (IT Brief UK).

PDFs are where a lot of work quietly stalls: contracts to merge, a report table you need in a spreadsheet, a file too big to email. Acrobat handles those small jobs without switching tools.

If you need to turn a PDF into slides instead, Decktopus has a PDF to PPT converter.

  • Best for: contracts, invoices, reports, research papers

  • Standout: table extraction, which pairs well with analysis in ChatGPT

  • Limits: for complex form building or signatures, you'll still want the full Acrobat app

  • Try this prompt: "Adobe Acrobat, merge these three PDFs and extract the pricing table from the second one."

6. Lovable: best for turning ideas into working apps and prototypes

The Lovable app turns a ChatGPT brainstorm into a working website or full-stack app. Tag @Lovable and ask something like "turn this into a real working website" to start a new project from your conversation (Lovable Docs).

It's the most versatile builder on this list. Marketers use it for landing pages and demos, operations teams for internal tools that replace messy spreadsheets, and product teams for clickable prototypes.

  • Best for: prototypes, internal tools, landing pages, customer demos

  • Standout: the more detailed your conversation, the better the first build

  • Limits: to keep editing after the first build, you continue in Lovable

  • Try this prompt: "@Lovable, turn this into a simple internal tool where my team can submit and approve software requests."

7. Wix: best for launching a business website from a chat

The Wix app builds a complete, hosted Wix Harmony website from a conversation. Start a prompt with @Wix, describe the site, and Wix generates it with commerce, scheduling, payments and SEO built in.

Your whole conversation becomes context for the build. So you can brainstorm first and tag @Wix when you're ready (Wix Blog).

Where Lovable is for custom tools and prototypes, Wix is for the business website itself: a consultant's portfolio, a studio's booking page, a small online store. If all you need is a simple portfolio page, Decktopus also has an online portfolio builder.

  • Best for: freelancers, consultants, local businesses, event pages

  • Standout: existing Wix users can also manage their business from ChatGPT

  • Limits: available in markets where the ChatGPT app directory is supported; detailed design work continues in the Wix editor

  • Try this prompt: "@Wix, build a website for my marketing consultancy with a services page, case studies and a booking form."

8. Notion: best for finding answers in your docs and notes

The Notion app lets ChatGPT search and read the Notion pages your account can access. Depending on your permissions and workspace settings, it may also create or update pages.

If your team's knowledge lives in Notion, this saves the hunt through nested pages. Ask where a decision was documented, pull together references from several pages, or draft something new from what's already written.

  • Best for: wikis, meeting notes, project docs, personal knowledge bases

  • Standout: answers draw on your own pages, not generic knowledge

  • Limits: ChatGPT only sees pages your connected Notion account can view; check that you authorize the right workspace

  • Try this prompt: "Find references to our launch timeline across my Notion pages and summarize what changed."

9. Google Drive: best for working with files you already have

The Google Drive app connects ChatGPT to the files and folders your Google account can open. You can search files and reference Google Docs, Sheets and Slides in your conversations.

It's the quiet workhorse on this list. Instead of downloading a file and uploading it again, you ask about it directly: summarize last quarter's report, compare two proposals, pull numbers from a sheet.

  • Best for: reports, proposals, spreadsheets, shared team folders

  • Standout: no re-uploading; ChatGPT works with files where they live

  • Limits: on a Google Workspace account, your admin controls whether ChatGPT is approved for the needed permissions

  • Try this prompt: "Find the Q3 marketing report in my Drive and list the three biggest changes from Q2."

10. Asana: best for turning plans into projects

The Asana app turns a brainstorm into a live project. You can create tasks, set due dates, assign owners, check status and build a full project from an uploaded document (Asana Help Center).

This closes one of the most common gaps in AI-assisted planning. The plan looks great in ChatGPT, then nobody copies it into the project tool.

With Asana, the plan becomes the project, and time-bound projects open in Gantt view automatically.

Need a starting structure first? Use our project plan template.

  • Best for: campaign launches, event planning, hiring plans, meeting action items

  • Standout: you can review and edit tasks, owners and dates before the project is created

  • Limits: works with Asana Personal, Starter, Advanced, Enterprise and Enterprise+ plans

  • Try this prompt: "@Asana, create a launch project from this plan with sections for content, channels and tracking, and assign the design tasks to me."

11. Coursera: best for learning a new skill on the job

The Coursera app brings relevant Coursera videos and course information into your conversation. Start a message with "Coursera," or let ChatGPT suggest it when you're trying to learn something.

You can watch a lesson and ask follow-up questions in the same chat. That makes it easy to go from a question to a short, structured explanation.

Work keeps asking for new skills, from data analysis to prompt writing, and AI tools are changing how teams learn. Coursera turns "I should learn this someday" into a lesson you can take right now.

  • Best for: upskilling, onboarding into a new role, quick refreshers

  • Standout: ask ChatGPT to explain a concept from the video you just watched

  • Limits: launched for logged-in users outside the EU on consumer ChatGPT plans, starting in English (Business Wire)

  • Try this prompt: "Coursera, I need to learn the basics of data analytics for my new role. Where should I start?"

12. Expedia and Booking.com: best for planning business travel

The Expedia and Booking.com apps show live hotel and flight options inside ChatGPT, with prices, photos and maps. Start a request with the app's name, add your dates and budget, and compare options without opening a dozen tabs.

Booking itself is completed on the travel site (AltexSoft). For freelancers and small teams without a travel desk, this turns planning a client visit or conference into one conversation.

  • Best for: client visits, conferences, team offsites

  • Standout: combines live availability with ChatGPT's help on itineraries

  • Limits: Expedia launched for logged-in users outside the EU (Travolution)

  • Try this prompt: "Expedia, find hotels near the Lisbon congress center for March 3 to 6 under $200 a night."

For larger teams: Slack, HubSpot and Atlassian Rovo

If your company runs on shared systems, three more apps are worth a look. Slack lets ChatGPT search the channels and messages you can access, on paid ChatGPT plans.

HubSpot answers questions about your CRM data and supports deep research with links back to records. Atlassian Rovo creates and updates Jira issues and Confluence pages.

All three usually need an admin to set up. That's why they fit organizations better than individuals.

Why Zapier isn't on this list

Zapier often appears in lists of the best ChatGPT apps, and it can connect ChatGPT to thousands of tools. But according to Zapier's own documentation, Zapier MCP in ChatGPT currently requires Developer Mode (Zapier).

Team rollouts also need a custom app and a Zapier Enterprise account (Zapier Docs). That's a different setup from adding an app from the directory, so we left it out.

How to add an app in ChatGPT

Adding an app in ChatGPT takes about a minute. Here's the current flow, based on OpenAI's help center (OpenAI Help Center):

Five steps to add an app in ChatGPT: open Plugins, search for the app, install, connect your account, type @ and the app name
  1. Open the directory. In ChatGPT, go to Plugins. If your account still shows Apps, use that instead.

  2. Find the app. Search by name, for example "Decktopus AI," and open its page to review what it includes.

  3. Install it. Select Install plugin if you see it. This may start the app's setup flow.

  4. Connect your account. If prompted, select Connect and sign in to the service, such as your Decktopus, Asana or Notion account.

  5. Use it in a chat. Type @ and the app name, or open the + menu, select More and choose the app.

You can disconnect an app any time from Settings. If you can't find an app, the reason is usually your plan, your region or your workspace settings.

On a company workspace, ask your admin whether the app is enabled.

Want to try it now? Add Decktopus to ChatGPT and ask for your next deck.

How to choose the right ChatGPT apps for your team

The right apps depend less on features and more on where your team's work ends up. Four questions help you decide.

Checklist of four questions for choosing ChatGPT apps: where the deliverable lives, who can use it, what it can change and whether it removes a step
  1. Where does the deliverable live? If your team presents, start with a presentation app. Pick apps that produce the output you hand over, not just more text.

  2. Can everyone actually use it? Check plan and region before you roll anything out. Several popular apps are limited in the EU, and some need a paid ChatGPT plan.

  3. What can it change? Some apps only read data; others create and update records. Availability also depends on your workspace and role (OpenAI Help Center), so involve your admin early.

  4. Does it remove a step? The point is fewer handoffs. If you still have to rebuild the result in another tool, the app saves less time than it seems.

This matters because most teams already use AI without a plan. 78% of AI users bring their own tools to work, according to Microsoft and LinkedIn (Microsoft).

A short, agreed list of apps gives people the speed they want. It also gives the company control over where its data goes.

FAQ

What are the best ChatGPT apps?

For work, the best ChatGPT apps are Decktopus for presentations, Canva for social graphics, Figma for diagrams and Adobe for images and PDFs. Lovable, Wix, Notion, Google Drive, Asana, Coursera and Expedia or Booking.com round out the list, and the right pick depends on the output your team delivers most often.

Where is the ChatGPT apps directory?

Since July 9, 2026, the ChatGPT apps directory is called the Plugin Directory. You'll find it under Plugins in ChatGPT on web and desktop, though some accounts may still show Apps.

Are ChatGPT apps the same as plugins?

Not exactly. An app connects ChatGPT to one outside service, while a plugin is a package that can include one or more apps, plus skills and templates.

Do ChatGPT apps cost extra?

It depends on the app. Some, like the Adobe apps, don't require a separate subscription, while others need an account with the service or a paid ChatGPT plan.

Can ChatGPT make a presentation with an app?

Yes. With the Decktopus App, you can describe a deck in ChatGPT and get back a designed presentation you can share or export.

See our step-by-step guide: Can ChatGPT Make a PowerPoint?

Which ChatGPT apps work in the EU?

Availability changes often. As of October 2026, Canva's app isn't available in the EU, and Figma, Coursera and Expedia launched their apps outside the EU first.

Check the app's page in the Plugin Directory to confirm what's available in your region.

Are ChatGPT apps safe for work data?

Apps follow the permissions of the account you connect, so you only see data you already have access to. Some apps can also create or change records, and on a company workspace your admin controls which apps are enabled.

Finish the work where it starts

Most teams already do their thinking in ChatGPT. The best ChatGPT apps for work let you finish there too, whether that's a project plan in Asana, a website in Wix or a deck for tomorrow's meeting.

Start with the one output your team rebuilds most often. For a lot of teams, that's the presentation.
